How to Play Prehistoric Farm: Dig, Hatch, Raise, Ride

Prehistoric Farm has one loop: dig → set → egg → hatch → feed → ride. Everything else (boats, fishing, the Mosasaurus) feeds coins back into it. This page follows that loop in order, with the numbers from a recorded 22-minute first session (Jurassic Dinoz, October 2026) and the official game description.

1. Get to a dig island

The home island, where you spawn, has your ranch, Dr. Ivy’s DNA Lab and the shops, but no dig spots. Take a boat from the spawn area. The nearest dig island, Cambrian Island, is under a minute away.

Be careful getting ashore. The player in our source footage nearly drowned twice climbing out of the water onto an island. Steer the boat right up to the shore.

2. Dig with the meter

Grab your shovel and hold on a dig spot. A meter fills; let go while it is in the green for a better find (the game’s own instruction).

What a dig can give you:

  • a fossil for the current period’s set (some are marked “Perfect”)
  • coins, or occasionally buried treasure
  • nothing at all: “No fossil” comes up a lot. It is luck, not a bug. Keep digging the same spot.

At night the game tells you to “Find a glowing dig site”. Dig spots glow, which makes them easy to find in the dark.

3. Finish a fossil set

Open the fossil collection menu. It lists six periods: Cambrian, Devonian, Triassic, Jurassic, Cretaceous and Cretaceous Seas. The Cambrian page in the footage counted 6 pieces (“three out of six… we need three more for DNA”).

When the set is complete the menu says Ready to extract DNA. You cannot do it on the island. Sail home and use the fossil station.

The animals for each period are on the fossil sets page.

4. Dr. Ivy and the egg

Take the DNA to Dr. Ivy at the DNA Lab (“I bring fossils back to life. Got any samples for me?”) and trade fossils for an egg. Warm the egg in the incubator. Timers are short:

EggIncubation seen
Hallucigenia (Cambrian)about 5 minutes
Tiktaalik (Devonian)2 min 30 s

When it is done, go to the hatchery, watch it hatch, then place the baby on your ranch. More on incubators and the paid incubator slots: eggs and raising.

5. Feed it until it is an Elder

Dinos grow from a tiny Newborn to a huge Elder, but only while their belly is over half full. Buy food on the home island (“Buy food there”). Fish you catch can also go to your dinos, which is the better use for them: they sell for only 5 to 10 coins each.

6. Ride

Once a dino is grown you can hop on and ride it around the islands. The game calls it your partner dino.

What to buy first

OrderBuyCostWhy
1Bronze shovel2,500 coinsStarter shovel only digs Cambrian; Bronze opens Devonian Island
2Next boat4,000 coinsThe starter boat is “extremely slow” and bigger boats reach new fossil islands
3Next shovel12,000 coinsNext dig tier

The player in the footage went from 244 to 2,900 coins with digging and some fishing, then bought Bronze. The code OGURICAPSORRY gives 10,000 coins on its own, so redeem the codes before you start saving. Full price list: shovels and boats.

Filling the wait

While an egg incubates, fish. You need bait (sold by the dock). Catches seen so far: mackerel, sardine, puffer fish and swordfish. The other sea activities are on the sea activities page.

Did this get you closer to an Elder?
