Prehistoric Farm Eggs, Incubators & Growing Dinos to Elder

Every dinosaur in Prehistoric Farm starts as a fossil set. This page covers the part after the dig: the egg, the incubator, the hatchery and growing a Newborn into an Elder.

From fossil set to egg

1. Complete a period’s fossil set (the collection menu shows Ready to extract DNA).
2. Extract the DNA at the fossil station. It does not work at the dig site.
3. Go to Dr. Ivy’s DNA Lab on the home island and choose Trade fossils for an egg.

You get the egg for that animal. In the footage a Cambrian set gave a Hallucigenia egg and a Devonian set gave a Tiktaalik egg.

Incubation times

These are the only two timers we have on record. The later egg was faster, so the time is per animal, not a fixed wait. Fish while you wait.

Hatching and the ranch

When the timer ends, go to the hatchery to see the egg hatch, then place it on your ranch (next to the home island spawn). The baby is small; the Cambrian animals especially are easy to lose in the grass.

Growing to Elder

The rule from the official description: keep your dino’s belly over half full so it keeps growing. If the belly drops, growth stops until you feed it again. Buy food on the home island. Caught fish can be fed too, which beats selling them at 5 to 10 coins.

Dinos go from Newborn to Elder. Once grown, you can ride them. How long Newborn to Elder takes has not been shown in any footage yet.

Egg-related game passes

None of the passes has a description on Roblox, so effects are read from their names. Their names suggest extra slots on top of the ones you start with. With eggs taking only minutes, extra slots matter less early on than coins for shovels; the free path is the codes and the shovel upgrades.
